7:58 pm - Request

Yeah, it's been a long time.  How YOU doing?  Livejournal is all but forgotten these days, eh?   Except for naked pictures.  YAY Internet!

Anyway, quick question:  do you, or anyone you know, want to draw comic books?  I've got a book that I need an artist on.  It's a 3-issue mini-series, and hopefully it can A) turn into a full series, or B) both me and the artist can use it to show the big companies that we can do work they're looking for.

If you have any interest, please let me know.

Thanks!

3:00 pm - Review of Saga of the Swamp Thing, Book One

I wanted to hate this book.

For years, all you keep hearing about is how great Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing was.  How he took the title, and in effect comics in general, in a much darker direction.  Even a more adult direction.  I blew that off as hooey.  It can't be THAT good.

Damn it all, it is!

Thanks in no small part to his artists Stephen Bissette and John Totleben, and very much to his colorist Tatjana Wood, Moore created a masterpiece in storytelling.  First he ties up the loose ends of the previous creative team in his first issue (reprinted here for the first time), then takes us on a trip to see the true origin of the Swamp Thing, one he understandably (once you read it) does not take well.  From there, we see a tale of a creature looking for its place in the world, while at the same time battling other creatures made of flora, as well as demons.

Meanwhile, the supporting cast is fully fleshed out with Abigail Arcane-Cable being the person trying to most restore ST's humanity, while her husband loses his and battles demons of his own, until one tragic occurence near the end of the book where a demon wins without much effort.

I can't type much here without spoiling everything.  Suffice it to say the hype IS accurate, the entire book holds up exceptionally well 25+ years later.  And it's reprinted on high-quality paper, so it looks beautiful too.

I wanted to hate this book.  Instead I love it.  That's some good storytelling right there.

12:24 pm - 2008 Presidential Talk
A friend of mine recently was telling me that my support of Bob Barr (www.bobbarr2008.com) is going to hurt John McCain, just like Ralph Nader hurt Al Gore and Ross Perot hurt Bush Sr.

The problem there is both of those claims are wrong.

The Dems could have taken Nader’s positions, and he would have dropped out. They didn’t. The Repubs could have taken Perot’s positions. They didn’t.

There’s no rule that only 2 parties can exist at a time. And it’s the major parties faults for telling people what to think instead of asking them what they think.

If Obama loses, it will not be because of Nader or McKinney. If McCain loses, it will not be because of Barr, Paul, or Baldwin.

It will be because they didn’t actively listen to those who might vote for them.

Like 4 years ago, most people who voted for Kerry didn’t vote FOR Kerry, they voted AGAINST Bush.  Sure, there were other candidates that they might have felt more in tune with, but they were more concerned with voting against someone, then voting for someone. I know I did that in the 2000 elections, and I learned my lesson.

The lesser of the 2 evils is still evil.

I agree with Nader on Iraq, and… that’s it, probably. But I feel he has a lot of important things to say and people need to be exposed to his ideas, but of course, the Democrats don’t want that because he appeals to their base, and the Republicans don’t want it because it opens the gates for a Bob Barr to come in and have people go “hey, I agree with him more, I’m voting for him!”   The same goes with all the other major 3rd party candidates.

It’s disgusting, really.

And with this election being so divisive, you will probably see the lowest 3rd party totals in history (including the Ron Paul write ins, and there'll be a lot of those), because everyone is either SO against Obama or SO against McCain.

Meanwhile, they’re 2 sides of the same coin.

If I HAD to choose one or the other, and it comes down to killing people in a land I’ve never been to vs. having my taxes go through the roof, well, I know which I’d pick.

I’m just glad I don’t have to pick either.

6:33 pm - Russia
Once again, the United Nations is USELESS, and negotiating is POINTLESS!

Force is the only thing some folks understand, and I wish SOME country wouldn't be full of pussies and help out Georgia.

But none will, and very soon, the USSR will be back.

Fucking useless UN and Europe.

10:29 am - The truth about Social Security!
These are facts, people, look them up!

Your Social Security

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this:

It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what, and it doesn't matter whether you are a Democrat or a Republican.

The facts are there!!

Our Social Security was introduced by Franklin Roose velt, a Democrat Introduced as the Social Security (FICA) Program.

He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program,
3. ) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,
4) That the money contributed by the participants would be put into the independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the General Operating Fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put away' -- you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? AND MY FAVORITE:
A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.

Immigrants that moved into this country, and at age 65, b egan to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so. But it's worth a try. Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.
- Thomas Jefferson, a founding Father that had no idea we would be betrayed so much in our short history!

7:11 am - New York Times joke... or is it?
A biker is riding by the zoo when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage.

Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage, and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain, the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.

A NYT reporter has seen the whole scene and, addressing the biker, says, "Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life."

"Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right."

"Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist from the New York Times, you know, and tomorrow's paper will have this on the first page. What motorcycle do you ride and what political affiliation do you have?"

"A Harley Davidson and I am a Republican."

The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys The New York Times to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads on the first page:

REPUBLICAN BIKER GANG MEMBER ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH.

7:25 pm - Democrats in-fighting

It's stories like that this that almost make me pee myself in excitement!!!

Hillary Rodham Clinton adviser James Carville is refusing to apologize for comparing New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to Judas.

Carville made the comparison to The New York Times after Richardson, once a member of President Clinton's Cabinet, endorsed Hillary Clinton rival Barack Obama last week for the Democratic presidential nomination. Carville called it an "act of betrayal," and pointed out that it came during Holy Week.
"Mr. Richardson's endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out (Jesus) for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic," he said.
Richardson told "Fox News Sunday" that he wouldn't respond by getting "in the gutter like that."
"That's typical of many of the people around Senator Clinton," Richardson said. "They think they have a sense of entitlement to the presidency."
Carville told CNN on Monday that Richardson had committed an "egregious act" and he intended to make a sharp response to it.
"I wanted to use a very strong metaphor to make my point," Carville said. "I doubt if Governor Richardson and I will be particularly close in the future."
Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson told reporters Monday that he didn't agree with Carville's comment.
"If I had said it, I would apologize," Wolfson said. "I did not say it, and if I had I would, but that's up to him."
Richardson served as ambassador to the United Nations and energy secretary during the Clinton administration

This is wonderful! And Richardson is totally in the right, Carville is a schmuck.

7:57 am - Stupid Giants
Congratulations to the New York Giants, I guess.  I was cheering them on, I just wanted to see the Pats Perfection bid end.  And end it did!

Most importantly, I won $225 thanks to two quarters ending 7-3.  Woulda been $300 if Big Blue had let the Pats score that TD at the end of the first instead of the beginning of the 2nd.  Ah well.

I bet [info]twinclashcried when they won.

6:24 am - I Got Nothing But Football

First, the Iggles were defeathered

Then, the Giants were knocked down to size

The most Redskins were made Black and Blue skins

And tomorrow?  The Jets, who just had an awesome win against the Steelers, are coming in for a crash landing on Thanksgiving Day!  And you know, now that I know what's going on at halftime of Jets games... I might have a new favorite AFC team.

And next week... next week... Cowboys vs. fudgePackers!  Both teams will be 10-1!  The NFC-only version of this year's Super Bowl baby!

Yeah, I got nothing else.

3:41 pm - 1....2... you hear the clock ticking?
The clock is ticking for YOU, New York Giants fans.  You're gonna get smoked starting in about 15 minutes.

Yesterday was my friend Gilligan's annual 11/11 party for his record label Fake Chapter Records.  As usual, a fun time was had by all, even though I didn't win the raffle for the first time in 3 years.  One thing I've noticed is despite various haircuts and beards, I look exactly the same now as I did 7 years ago.  NICE.

Anyway, it was in Little Falls so I contacted my friends [info]godzilla_jonesand [info]the_way74to see if they could hang out.  Allison is sick (probably of the dreaded Jetsluenza going around), but me and Fitz had a good time hanging out with the LF locals.  It was fun catching up, trashing pretty much everyone either of us has ever met in our lives.  It was fun, I don't get to hang out with that miserable bastard nearly enough.

COWBOYS!!!!

6:56 pm - Woo-Hoo!

While I am disappointed that the Democrats continue to have a stranglehold on county politics, I am glad to announce that the Democrat machine in Rutherford was UTTERLY destoryed, as the mayor and councilpeople were voted out by counts of 3-1!  It was glorious!

Oh, the weekend is soon, Sunday beckons, BRING ON THE FUCKING GIANTS!  Big Blue Crybaby Crew after the Cowboys, who just DECIMATED the Philadelphia Eagles (whom, I should point out, our close friend

[info]twinclash insisted was to be great while Dallas was in last place), come in to East Rutherford and put a spanking down.  G-Men?  Please.  It'll be like taking on the French.
